I have just returned from El Cocuy Park. It is said that a circuit is closed, we didnt ask actually. Just made it, we also met some other hikers on our way, they didnt ask for a permission too. More questions you can ask me via email vse_fignya @ mail.ru

I´ll be heading to El Cocuy and the PNN Cocuy in the beginning of March.

Anyone wanna join me for the 6 - 7 day circuit trek?

Did anyone take the overnight bus to Cocuy or Guicon? My friend and I are planning on it and I'm wondering if there's any reason to be concerned safety-wise.

Thank you!

no, you can take the overnight bus without problems. i have taken several night buses throughout colombia and venezuela. the only safety concern you should have is about the temperature on the bus. take 2 blankets and a winter jacket :D

Hi all,

My boyfriend and I + a friend we met in Cartagena want to do the El Cocuy trekking, leaving Bogota next Monday 17th of March. Is anyone else planning on doing the trek next week? We would love to join and share expenses/experiences.

Nils Americas, you spoke about the beginning of March, I guess you have finished the trekking already?

We got a tip from a friend for an excellent guide living in Guican, but I guess there's no other way to plan this then to go there and ask him... Does anyone know the cost we are looking at for a guide? We have some hiking experience but are not frequent hikers so could definitely use a guide (especially not used to the height).

Also: we brought good clothes for the trekking, but have no camping equipment, or sleeping bag. Would you suggest renting this in Bogota?

For a roundtrip Bogota - El Cocuy, including the trekking, how much time should we take to do this?

Thanks a lot in advance for your answers!!
Elien

I am planning to visit the Cocuy any time in April or May (except 3-6/4 and 1-4/5). I would like to do the 7 day circuit or any adaptation according to what is possible. Anybody interested? I am looking for a travel mate.
You can contact me directly at d_or2000@yahoo.com
Thanks

Hi,

We did a 5 day trekking in El Cocuy and it was amazing. We can highly recommend our guide Ramiro. He was waiting for us when we arrived early in the morning from Bogota and we had breakfast at his house. He arranged camping gear for us in El Cocuy. This included a light weight tent (3kg), 2 warm sleeping bags, sleeping mats and cooking gear.

During the trekking you can decide together with him where you want to go, if you sleep in the tent or cabanas, etc etc.

We spent in total 700 USD for 2 persons in March. This included PNN entrance fee, transportation to and from the park, food, camping, thermales on the 5th day, ...
Prices can be higher at other times of year, like December - February and during Semana Santa.

Give him a call (only in spanish) or drop him a line to arrange your trip. You don't need to be fluent in Spanish, the basics are enough to sort everything out.
