Greetings Christopher!

Hi!
Myself and two others (22 year olds from Scotland) are hoping to visit el cocuy to see the devils pulpit and laguna de la plaza day trips in a week or so.
From my reading you can stay in Cabana Sisuma for this but I believe (correct me if I'm wrong)this is within the park and so is above 4000m. Does anyone know if this means we would need a guide for the days travelling to the cabana as well as our day treks as this could get expensive! Also if there's another one or two people out there who wish to join we are laid back students with experience hiking around Scotland and abroad (so we have some kit) but not extreme climbers or anything.
Best Wishes,
Rosie, Gus and Katie

Did you all make it there, and if so what were the conditions like? I'm wondering if it's the wrong time of the year to go. I'm in Colombia for a bit longer and could potentially make it Cocuy in August.

Does anyone have any info on hikes that are available in the area without entering the park? From a TripAdvisor post someone said that the following hikes were available without entering the park: Cerro Mahoma, Laguna de la Plaza, Kanwara, Mirador a Los Ritacubas, and Laguna San Pablin.
I'm in Barichara right now and everywhere has such crappy wifi that I haven't been able to look all of them up and verify. Does anyone have any information on those or other hikes that may be available without entering the park?
Also, my wife and I are most likely heading to El Cocuy (the town) tomorrow so if anyone else will be there in the next few days and want to split the costs for a guide, let me know.
Hello all,
Is El Cocuy still closed for hiking? From reading this thread it sounds like the 6-day hike is closed permanently, but that some of the day hikes may still be open? I will be there in December and I would appreciate any recent info on the topic. Thanks so much!
