Hello, We are planning to do the Lost City Hike in Colombia in 4 days/3 nights. However, someone has told us this is too short a time. I would love to hear comments, experiences etc.

we are just back from Colombia and can tell you that its not too short at time. we did exactly this as did 11 other people in our group & as did 2 other groups. - If your reasonably fit that is. days 2 & 3 are long days. great trek, enjoy

Hi Annie,

It is quite an intense hike, or it was for me. I think a lot of the things I read undersold it a bit. The mileage is not bad at all, but you ascend/descend some 9,000 feet in elevation during the trek. I feel like I'm "reasonably fit," but it did quite a number on my knees and I was quite sore a day or two after the trek. That said, with 4 days/3 nights we had reasonable breaks most days and usually began hiking around 6 a.m., ending around 3-4 p.m. (with a lunch break and several smaller snack breaks.) So extending to a 5- or 6-day hike would lend to a lot of downtime. If you have unlimited time in Colombia, I might recommend the 5 day, but if you're on a short trip that's really eating into your opportunities to see other places.

The trek is truly beautiful, but the hike is very strenuous and the camps can be really crowded/chaotic. I'm glad to say I've done it, but I wouldn't do it again.
