I'm flying into Bogota from Lima around midnight next Tuesday, then trying to catch a bus from Bogota either direct to San Gil, or one that passes by San Gil on the way to Bucaramanga. Does anyone know if there are buses leaving Bogota as late as 1 or 2am? Suggestions on a bus company to use? Distance from the Bogota airport to the terminal?

Also, if there are no buses would it be an issue killing time either in the Bogota airport or the terminal to wait for the earliest bus departures?

Thanks,
Evan

Most of the larger cities in Colombia have websites where you can check times and routes:

It looks like Omega has a bus to Bucaramanga with a stop in San Gil, that departs at 1am. The terminal is pretty close to the airport. Late at night, you're looking at about a 10min taxi trip. I've used the Omega service from San Gil before and it was fine. Leaving that late really limits your options, so you aren't going to have a whole lot of companies to choose from.

You can kill a few hours in the terminal no problem. There are many bars in the terminal, but I'm not sure as to what time they close. If they are still open, you could pop in a drink a few beers while you wait. The terminal is generally safe. Just keep an eye on your stuff and definitely don't let it out of your sight. There are lockers in the terminal, so if you're looking at a pretty long layover, I'd just put my things in a locker and be done with it. The airport would be ok too, but I'd just go to the terminal and hop on the first bus available.

Good advice from #1. At that time it'll be no more than ten minutes in a taxi between the two terminals. When you arrive in the airport just take a taxi to the bus terminal and see whats available - at the worst you'd only have to wait until around 4am when the first buses start departing. A few weeks ago I was travelling back to Bogota and did'nt arrive until around 3am and even at that time there were shops and cafes still open within the bus terminal. A few bus companies plying that route are Transportes Copetran, Berlinas, Omega and Brasilia.
