A friend and I are headed to San Andres the first week in November for a week on the island. We'd like to hit either Bogota or Cartegena on the way down for a few days. I've been reading that the only way onto the island is to fly into Colombia first, rather than Nicaragua or another Central American country. Can anyone verify this? If we could hit another country our options would be more open.
Anyone who has been to the island recently and could provide us with suggestions on how to get the cheapest fun would be great. We would like to experience the island from a local view point. Our accomodations have been taken care of through a time share [a lovely gift!] but suggestions of things to do, places to eat, and even a night away from the hotel [camping or hostels?] are welcome!
Thanks!

I saw a flight to Toronto (or some Canadian city) leaving from San Andres airport, it that helps!

the reason why you cant fly in from nicaragua is because the two countries are almost at war... well it wont happen because nicaragua would not last long but they claim san andres as there own and took colombia to the world court to fight over the island....
san andres is a fantastic place
