Hi, I am headed to Cartagena this summer and am about to book my hotel. I've read through many of the recommendations mentioned on the site (very helpful!), emailed the potentials for prices/availability and would now love some feedback.

I'm going with a pal who would prefer El Centro or San Diego (she has safety concerns about Getsemani) and are looking for good location in the USD $50-$90 range. An inward facing balcony might be nice but I'm price sensitive so maybe I can't have it all. I emailed the hotels for 2 single beds AC private bath. We're looking to meander, eat, chill, drink a little, beach, maybe volcano, chill some more, meander again - you get the idea.

Based on what I've read on this forum and the responses to my emails, my shortlist is down to:

Tres Banderas - 1st floor, COP $145.000
Centro Hotel - COP $131.000
Santo Domingo - COP $96.700
Hotel El Viajero - COP $80.000 (is there also a Hotel Viajero? If so, I may have emailed the wrong one. I used "hotelviajero664"@***.com.)

Any feedback from those who have been?

Thanks for the wonderful info in this forum. Been very useful in planning!

Thanks, ANNE

All your choices are fine. They're all low-end accommodation in the old city and any of them will suit your needs. The price differences accurately reflect how nice they are.

Have fun.

Cheers,
Terry

Just got back and have the details for you!!!

We checked out EACH of the places you mentioned... We ended up staying at Tres Banderas. Highest level of quality per peso. You won't regret staying there. We loved the location, service and breakfast. Very fair, no added (hidden) charges...A/C is new and works very well. Maids do a great job cleaning. Think you will enjoy it.

We paid $155.000 for a 2nd level room w/ AC. Perfect.

Terry and JustOne...

Thanks a million for your feedback on the hotels. Tres Banderas it is then. I love to have these details in advance and then roll with it once I'm on the ground.

JustOne, I see that you're based in the US. Can you tell me what your $155,000 COP came out to in USD? Of course, I know how to look up exchange rates but I'm wondered what credit card companies will manage to tack on - so wondered what your end result was.

Thanks again to both of you!
