HI- I´m about to bus from Bogota up to Santa marta and onto Tagenga in hopes of taking a diving course. The Lonely Planet guide suggests poseidon, but their rates are now significantly higher than the book estimates (close to 400 US dollars a person for a 4 day course) and I´m not willing to pay so much. Does anyone have a suggestion about a dive school they used up there that was a bit cheaper and didn´t make them feel in danger? Was it necessary to book in advance or will it be OK to just show up? All advice on diving in Tagenga is highly appreciated. Thanks and cheers!

I did a diving course in Taganga, i think any other company than Poseidon is cheaper and all of good standards

I am reluctantly leaving Taganga tomorrow and have had a fantastic week diving with Octopus Dive Centre. I cannot praise this centre enough. The owners, Adres and Natalia are welcoming beyond description and become your family. The instructors are just fantastic...so professional, understanding and patient. I felt SO safe at all times with them. They speak English too which is brilliant and helps a lot in the instruction obviously. I cannot begin to describe the constant patience, understanding, encouragement, attention and kindness shown to me during the week by Andres, Natalia and my wonderful and extremely patient instructor!! You see, I was SO nervous, especially at the start of my PADI. Thanks to them, I didn`t give up after the first day as I was going to do! I am just so happy and proud of myself that I persisted and have really enjoyed the course, which I topped off with 4 more fun dives! I wish I could stay and do more!!
I will never forget this dive school, who have made this place so special for me and will always have a place in my heart. Oh and the price is a lot cheaper than other schools in the area, which by the way I had researched before. Incidently, I found Octopus to also offer the friendliest reception when I was enquiring in the various schools in Taganga.
I cannot recommend this dive school enough. Happy diving!!!
