Hi Guys,

A colleague of mine is planning to go to the Carribean with his wife later this year, and is trying to decide where exactly to go. Having travelled in Colombia before, and loved it, I have managed to convince him that the Carribean coastline of Colombia is beautiful, vibrant and fantastic value for money. However, my colleague is having trouble finding much info. on the net. The types of places I stayed, restaurants I ate in etc. whilst I was in Colombia would not be suitable for their needs so i'm not able to advise him much. He and his wife are in their early 60's, and his wife has not been in the best of health, so grubby hostals and long treks are out of the question!

If anyone can reccomend some nice hotels (up to $200 per night the pair), in Cartegena, Santa Marta or anywhere else that you think may be nice, please let me know. They would really like to just relax near a beach, eat in nice restaurants and basically chill out for 10 days or so. Any tips welcome!

Thanks,

Bon

Cartagena in the old city is the place to go. There are several boutique hotels that are just lovely and provide you with transportation to beautiful island and beaches nearby.
Hotel Santa Clara is another lovely choice but the price will be higher than $200/night. The New York times in the travel section had a whole write up oncartagena you might want to check it out!: http://travel.nytimes.com/2007/05/20/travel/tmagazine/07well-cartagena-t.html?pagewanted=4

It's definately true that Colombia's coast lacks real upmarket hotels. I can't really find any either. Best option might be the Rosario Islands or they could try EcoHabs hotel in Park Tayrona.
