Hi,

I have a fortnight in Colombia later this year, and after looking at the lonely planet guide, i liked the idea ofa road trip - Bogota-Villa de Leyva-San Gil-Bucaramanga-Mompos-Cartagena.

Does anyone know whether it is reasonably safe/sensible to travel this route (by bus, during the day) at the moment?

thanks
Martin

Yes it is safe. But if you read just one or two pages back you would have found the answer yourself.

It's absolutely fine to travel that road.

I travelled thru Colombia for 25 days last month, mostly by road, and did not find road travelling dangerous at all, including night buses, wich I took from Bogotá to San Augustin and from Medellin to Tolú. I always felt safe and the buses are usually great (except maybe for short trips "busetas", but they aren't all that bad either).
