Any idea how much is the departure tax in Bogota airport?.
Reply 1: It depends on how long you stay in the country. Under 60 days and it is around 30 dollars. More than that it is 50.
Reply 2: If you visit Colombia on a tourist visa your departure tax is 31.00 US$. If you enter the country on a business visa your departure tax is 53.00 US$.
Reply 3: You have to get an exemption to pay the lower rate. There is a desk for this near the entrance of the airport (inside). Do it before you check in as you pay your tax shortly before you check in. They will give you a form and stamp your passport (not an immigration imprint).
Reply 4: The current fee is US$33.00 for less than 60 days.

We got the exemption after checking in at the AA counter. The agent told us to go to a different booth to obtain the waiver. But we were in Colombia for only 15 days so we either did not have to pay or AA has already collected it I am not sure which. Have some COP ready is a safe bet. I doub't they take US dollars. If you end up having left over COP's you can always spend it upstairs in the food court or the souvenir shops.
You will be happy to know the military officer takes his duty inspecting luggage very seriously. It was random selection and I was lucky to be selected. The officer went over everything in it. He even opened the scent port of a Juan Valdez coffe pack to smell if it is coffee in it. I guess the use of x-ray to inspect every passenger for swallowed condoms cannot be implemented or he would have had a much easier task.
