im planning to travel to south america preferably starting off in bogota within the next two months but am finding it really difficult to find a reasonably priced air fare. im hoping to leave around the 5 april and return around 5 august which immediatly means i cant qualify for special offer fares. is it possible to get a return fare for around £600/ 1000 EURO. I live in London and would like to fly from heathrow but travelling to madrid or suchlike would not be a problem. Although bogota is my favoured destination at this point i would not mind any destination excluding brazil.
i have seen air comet which does cheapish fares but the site is difficult to use even with english option on it still seems to be mainly in spanish. has anyone any experience of this airline. reading reviews online it seems pretty shambolic.
any help is much appreciated. im a uk citizen, 19yr old male wanting to return to s america after spending some time in peru last year.
so guys wheres the cheapest deal. many thanks,
Patrick

For London-Bogota:
I had to search around for the same. Use lastminute.com, as it allows you to use a really good 'flexible date' grid where you can see the chepest prices at a glance. Other sites (opodo is ok) aren't as good in my experience.
I got my ticket for £535, and I left it very late. Saw it for under £400 from Madrid, but then you have to get there, and (unless you do this early), it is more expensive than expected.
I looked at Air Comet, but read the reviews - 'like travelling on Ryanair across the Atlantic', in short. May be worth it if you really want to keep it budget, but you sound liek you have enough money to get a decent ticket.
If óne doesn't mind travelling thru the U.S.A., check airfares with:
CONTINENTAL to BOGOTA or CALI (Continental has the advantage of departures from major U.K. cites),
DELTA to BOGOTÁ,
AMERICAN to BOGOTÁ, CALI or MEDELLÍN.
(Overnight in the U.S.A. might be required.)
Another option would be KLM/COPA via Amsterdam and Panama to Bogotá, Cartagena, Cali, Medellín, Bucaramanga.

Hi Patrick
Check out the website Kayak ( [http://www.kayak.co.uk] ). Great airfare comparison site. Fiddle around with the dates a bit and you should be able to get a price that suits. Then just click on the links for the airfares you like and it takes you to the actual website. If you sign-up with them, you can save your searches etc.
Good Luck
p.s. I just did a quick search for London-Bogota return departing 7th April and returning 4th August and the cheapest was £572 with Continental Airlines. There were at least half a dozen fares sub-£600.

Have a look at Air France from Paris. I priced a flight for myself (not booked yet though) for €1000
Hi
I flew from Madrid to Bogotá last summer with Avianca, for about £550. I use the spanish site www.rumbo.es to look for flights, and then book directly with the airline afterwards. It used to be a part of despegar.com (also excellent but for now just for LatinAmerican countries). I was also about to book with AirComet but found a page with ghastly reviews so backed out at the last second, and went with Avianca which was less than €100 more. My flight did stop off to let most people out at Cali however.

You'll need a 6 month valid ticket - the American carriers are generally cheapest for such 6 month valid tickets. Try American Airlines, or cheapest may well be Virgin Atlantic - you'll have to call them. You won't find anything for £600 i would guess - £700 mark and you'll be doing well.
An alternative might be to look at flights to Caracas - try TAP or Delta, and catch an onward flight to Colombia. This sometimes works out cheapest. Here's some more advice on flights to Colombia
I wouldn't advise to try to get to Colombia thru Venezuela now a days.
Don't know how the relations between those 2 countries could worsen in days to come.

well ive booked my flight now. continental airlines for £580 via new york. im leaving on 15th april so thanks for the advice. last minute is spot on for finding cheaper flights but it seems the 'flight you have selected is no longer available' always pops up when you actually want to book the flights they have just offered you. in the end i just booked through continentals website.
thanks again and wish me luck. i will no doubt be posting more questions in the coming weeks lol.
