Arriving in Cartagena on May 28th. Would like any information from recent travelers about reasonably priced hotels or hostels that can be booked on line. I would like to have a place reserved for the first night or two until I can look around a bit.
for hostels you can always check rating at webs about hostels, then you can book through them or at the hostel web if have one with that service
happy travels : )
As I understand there are plenty timeshares or apartments in Cartagena. You can get them at very reasaonable rate during non-peak season.

Start here: http://www.casaviena.com/
Most of the inexpensive backpacker accommodation in Getsamani don't offer on-line reservations. To give you an idea of costs, the Marlin Hotel about 2 blocks from the Viena is about 35,000 for two people in a private room, private bath, air conditioning and satellite television.
Cheers,
Terry

Hi Luisa,
I saw one of your postings to a thread in thorn tree. I'm going to be in Bogota this weekend and need accomodations. Please advise me on what you have available. I'm looking for a private room, it would just be for myself. I'm a 31 year old american man and am coming to Columbia for vacation (I want to party and relax).
Thank you, Paul

Hi,
I was in Cartagena in December and stayed at Los Balcones de Badillo, which has a website. Just look it up on Google. It's a small, nice hotel in the centre of the old city and costs about $45 for a single room. It's a really friendly hotel and the service is great. I loved in so much in Cartagena that I'm returning on May 29. If you would like to meet up, let me know. My email is meredwyn_@hotmail.com. I'm a 21-year-old Australian girl who speaks Spanish. Actually, I made friends with one of the employees of the hotel while I was there in Cartagena, so if you're interested in the hotel but have some questions let me know.
Cheers, Meredith

Yeah, me and my girlfriend are arriving in Cartagena on the 3rd of July and we maybe are interested in booking an apartment.
Can you tell me the price per night for two, where it is located and if it is available.
Cheers

I stayed at a place called "Northstar Backpackers" www.northstarbackpackers.com. They are also one of the only budget hostels listed on hostelworld.com and hostels.com. It was in a neighborhood called "Bocagrande", which is the nicer area of town and a bit more expensive. The beds however were only something like 16000 ($9.50) with fan, and 20000 ($12) with AC (the one i stayed in). Its a good alternative since Casa Vienna is almost always booked up 2 weeks in advance and some people say the neighborhood is kind of "sketchy" although I found it to be nice. However some people have reported things like petty thievery in the area.
There are alot of apartments located in an area called "Laguito" in a building called "La Conquistador" and they were reasonably priced. something like 60.000 pesos a night, but for what you got (TV, AC, kitchen, nice clean bathroom), i thought it would be worth it, just didn't have the money for it.
