Hey there!
My boyfriend and i are going to Colombia for the first time next february, since we only have 14 days and there is so much to do i'm looking for help.
We are in our late 20s, we are going to backpack and stay in hostels but we will cover long distances with domestic flights. We want to see Bogotà, Medellin, Salento and the Cocora Valley, Cartagena, Barranquilla, and spend 3-4 days at the beach but still haven't figured out where (Tayrona and Santa Marta or Isla Grande or Playa Blanca).
My first problem is that i've recently found out that we are going to be in Colombia for Carneval de Barranquilla, i've read it's the second biggest of SA and i feel it would be a shame not going there. Is one day and one night enough to experience it? Is it worth to schedule my whole vacation around this event? We are landing in Bogotà on feb. 20th and Carneval is from 25th till the 28th.
My other main concern is that i don't know where to go to enjoy 3-4 days at the beach.
Ideally we would land in Bogotà on the 20th, stay there until the 22th than catch a flight to Cartagena or Santa Marta, spend 3-4 days somewhere at the beach and then head to the Carneval.
Is there any place any of you would recomand? I would love to visit Tayrona but i don't know if i can handle 3 nights of sleeping in tents in the jungle. Our budget is around 50 USD/night.
Thanks to anybody that will help!
