Has anyone applied for a Temporary Residence Visa for Chile in the USA?

I'm currently in the US and I'm an Australian Citizen. I'm trying to apply for a Residence Visa to Chile, but for a week the local consulate is not returning my email or calls. I need to know if I need to apply for a police check thru Australian or whether it will need to be with a US agency?

It will take up to 15 working days to get the Australian Police check, so time is running out.

Thanks,

Hello,

We're trying to plan a trip through Parque Pumalin in January. When we try to book a ferry slot online, we're required to fill in vehicle make/model/license plate# information that we simply don't have because we don't have our rental car yet. Does anyone have any advice? I've emailed a couple of rental car companies but haven't heard back yet.

Thoughts or tips? Greatly appreciated :)

We are nearing 70 and though experienced hikers, like to go slow. Is there a way to do the 5 day W hike in 6 or 7 days? We will be carrying are own tent, etc. but will need to buy some food along the way. We will be there about February 5 and need to get going on reservations. Thanks for any help.

Hello all. After 100+ hours reading blogs on Patagonia for the last 3 months, I still have a few questions about our upcoming trip. Our 5-member family will be flying into El Calafate Dec 18 around noon and renting a car. We're thinking about going directly to Perito Moreno glacier that day, but have no plans for that night or the 19th. Our reservations for the W start at Paine Grande on the 20th and we'll be carrying our own gear. We then stay in a cabin near the park Christmas eve and…

Hi!

I am heading to TdP to do the full Q circuit over 9 days in early January, and I've heard that the rules have changed (as of mid-2016) and you now have to book even CAMPSITES ahead of time! Friends who have been before assured me that you can just walk up and set up a tent with a reservation, but since I've read in multiple places that the rules have changed, I don't really want to listen to my friends.

I am totally fine with booking ahead of time, except for the fact that when i go online…

Does anyone have experience with San Fabian de Alico? I am considering going there after Punta Arenas and I'm having trouble finding good info about it. Specifically, is it good for an outdoors/nature lover - river sports, hiking, biking, etc.? And can I get to places for those things without my own wheels? I'm kind of stranded in Chile Chico now with no way to get to the parks without paying huge private transportation costs and don't want to go to San Fabian if it will be the same. Thanks for…

My wife and I are planning a 3 week trip to Chile. Santiago, Valparaiso, Atacama and possibly a few other spots. In my research so far, I keep getting this odd feeling about the hidden issues of traveling there. E.g., that surprise 19% VAT on hotel rooms, tour companies that refuse to publish their prices online (so they can offer "customized pricing"), people being charged for room costs FAR before their check-in date with no way to cancel for refund... just to name a few examples.

We are…

The hotel booking sites show prices that EXCLUDE VAT. Some online research resulted in much confusion on this issue, some people saying the VAT (16-19%) is NOT paid by tourists when they pay in a foreign currency (cash), BUT when one does this you are subject to an exchange rate that is at the whim of the hotel. Also, some say if a foreigner pays with a credit card, then, the VAT IS required.

So, Foreign currency, no VAT. But credit card, charged in local currency - (always the best way in my…
