Has anyone booked trips going directly from Calama through the Salar de Uyuni -- like doing the whole experience, not just getting to the town in Bolivia? I would like to rent a car so we can do San Pedro de Atacama ourselves without hiring a driver for the different areas (which looks like it will be both more expensive than renting a car, and less flexible), but it also seems like I need to rent a car in Calama and return it in Calama. We are doing the Salar de Uyuni afterwards, and heading…

I am oing to Santiago Chile for the first two weeks of November and I'm considering to fly to Punta Arenas via sky airlines either Nov 5 or Nov 6. The issue is that you can either buy a one way ticket for over 300 USD or ironically buy a two way ticket for only 200 USD. I'm seriously considering the second option and spend more days in that area.

I'm thinking of arriving to Punta Arenas on a Thursday perhaps for 2 days then ride the bus to Ushuaia and spend another 3 days there, fly on…

Members of my family are going on this hike and we are trying to determine if its suitable for a particular member.

I can't find a simple clear description of the hike just convoluted day by day things which i don't have time to trawl through. Can someone please help me out by giving me the basics in brief.

What altitude?
What is the length of it?
How many days does it usually take to walk it?
Do walkers have to carry a pack?
Do they have to carry a tent and sleeping bag etc?
Do they have to…

Hello all,

I am following up a previous post with a more detailed request for information now that we have a more solid itinerary. My wife and I will be flying into Puerto Montt (staying Puerto Varas) on 20 Nov and plan to make an overland bus trip to Bariloche (departing 29 Nov). We would like to stop along the way between the two for some hiking and sight-seeing. All advice about this route or sights would be welcome.

Specifically, I am wondering about the following:

1) What bus company…

Hello!
I'm sure this has been asked/answered here but should I book campsites in advance for late November in TDP?

Thanks!!
Also any recommendations of hostels to stay at in Puerto Natales before the big hike, ideally with tent/supply rentals?

We are heading to South America a couple of months and we have booked already a return flight on 1 juli 2016 (departing in Mexico)

I have heard that you need to show proof of onwards travel before heading to Chile as the visa expires after 90 days (we fly with United Airlines departing in Schiphol Netherlands).
I was wondering what others have done to get around this.
I was thinking of booking a bus to Chile online (if even possible)but we probably will not use that ticket so if it's not…

We want to do a day trip to see king penguins in Tierra del Fuego from Punta Arenas. What we found are either bus tours with a VERY long ride, or uber expensive tours including a flight to Porventir.

But is it possible to fly into Porvenir, rent a car there (or at least book a reasonably priced tour with a driver), go to see penguins, and return by plane to Punta Arenas that same afternoon? How far is the penguin colony from Porvenir timewise? And will the penguins actually be there late…

We will be for two days in Copiapo, and want to do a day trip to Nevado Tres Cruces. While I was able to find a somewhat reasonably priced tour, I was wondering how difficult is it to visit it on our own? My main concern is getting lost there. (We don't have a GPS device that will work in Chile, and I am not sure how good of a GPS we can get when renting a car in Copiapo.) Also, is it mandatory to rent an SUV, or the roads are doable in a sedan?

Thank you in advance!

Hi!

A few days ago I booked some flights to Easter Island as part of a longer Chile/Peru trip. I asked a friend who said that 3 nights was enough, then booked my flights. I've got a gnawing feeling that I'm going to really love it and want to stay longer. I'll be the in early Feb, which coincides with the Tapati festival, so there should be lots going on.

I've got flexible flights and so can change to a flight 2 days later giving me 5 nights on the island.

Can anyone that's been say what…
