Chilean pesos are best IMHO, dollar bills can be exchanged easily at most tourist spots , euros can also be exchanged at good rates, however, only in the larger cities.

Use the currency of the country, the Chilean peso. There is no advantage to using another currency and it is unlikely to be accepted other than for some sort of tourist only activity.

I totally agree with Femby. Chilean pesos are the best. I would also suggest you to withdraw enough money in Santiago's ATM. There are just few ATMs on the island. From my experience there s always at least 1 ATM out of order :-), so it s better not to risk and not to waste time looking for a working ATM in Hanga Roa.
You are gonna love Easter island! It s a magical place!

-if you order currency in advance from an exchange place in your home country, you may be able to get a better rate than if you just buy at the airport.

-talk to your bank and get a comparison of atm fees and credit card fees and their exchange charges. if you are able to log in to your account online and make payments on your card each time you withdraw, or if it's a short trip, it can work out cheaper to get cash advances.

personally, i prefer to withdraw cash every two or three days from a machine. it costs a little more than exchanging a big chunk all at once, but if my money is stolen i'll only lose a little.

But neither will get you the best rate. If exchanging cash, change at an exchange office. The best exchange is to be found in the center of Santiago on Agustinas. But if you are exchanging US$200 or less it won't make that much difference where you exchange. You may have to pay a charge on your withdrawals from an ATM, it seems some cards do some don't. This is not the me as any bank charges from your own bank.

Thanx everyone

Any idea how much I need pr. day ? I have already payed for hotel and transport to and from airport / hotel and most of my sightseeing trips beforehand.

I Guess Things cost more on Easter island than in Santiago too ?

Things cost more on Easter Island as just about everything is flown in. People often bring some food or drink or snacks (not fresh food) in their suitcase to top up their meals. Stop by a supermarket before going.
