Am looking for a good guidebook for a trip to Chile - normally would buy LP, but as far as I can tell, the most recent edition of LP Chile & Easter Island is from May 2006. A bit of research online shows Frommer's to have the most recent edition published in July 2007. Has anyone used this guide, or know of another that would be very current and as helpful and user-friendly as the LP guides?

I feel a bit like a traitor posting this here, but am hoping for some good advice.

My interests are hiking, camping, and off-the-beaten path attractions, and I am on a shoe-string budget.

I'm also planning a trip to Chile, and have just bought the Moon Handbook, which gives the publication date as February 2007. I'd never used a Moon book before (they aren't promoted very much here in Ireland), but it seems pretty good, with plenty of information about transport and other practicalities. As I haven't visited yet, I can't tell you whether it will turn out to be useful in practice or whether it is accurate and reliable, but at the planning stage I am quite satisfied with it.

Thanks Alan - I saw 'moon' too, and liked the looks of it, but it's hard to tell til you've been there, eh?

Quick update: after a month in Chile with the Moon guide, I'm wishing I bought the LP, out of date or no. Moon's better than nothing, but the format and the info just doesn't compare. I should have stuck with the LP.
