Hello, my girlfriend and I will soon need to travel between San Pedro de Atacama to Cuzco, preferably as quickly as possible as we need to get to cuzco for a spanish course. Can anyone help us with the route, timescale and any difficulties which may result from the recent earthquake?

Thanks in advance, Chris

quickest way via bus would be to Arica, then over the border and from Tacna to Cusco, would be about 24 hours worth of travelling i would say roughly

i agree wiht jt but when you get in arica in the verry same bus terminal there is an oficce caal turismo they can give you all the info that you want and need to get in to cusco but from what i know you must go go first to tacna in a collectivo and than by bus to arequipa and than in the night bus to cusco .... you also can buy your bus tiket in arica in the same oficce ... they will put you in a collectivo wish will crus the border wiht you into tacna en than they put you in the correct en verry good bus to take the trip to arequipa
from arica to tacna think of 2 hours
from tacna to arequipa think of 6 hours
from arequipa to cusco think of 10 hours
the ticket from arica to arequipa incuding the collectivo is arround 12.000 pesos 24 usd +-

If I were in a rush to get to Cuzco from San Pedro, I would back-track (if you have already been to Bolivia)

and take the bus to Puno and Cuzco from La Paz, Bolivia. In this case my itinerary would be:

Calama/La Paz
La Paz/Puno/Cuzco.

HOWEVER:

Since I don't know your nationality and I don't know whether you need a visa for Peru or not,
I would have to say that if you need to get a visa for Peru
and you are already in Chile, you best bet would be to get a visa in Iquique or Arica and
then choose the itenarary below:

Calama/Arica
Arica/Arequipa
Arequipa/Puno/Cuzco
