My computer was stolen at a bus terminal in Santiago about 2 hours before getting on a bus to Iquique.
The security guards were called and basically told me that nothing could be done and my computer is gone. I asked them to call the police so I could know more about what to do. They were reluctant to call the police and just told me that the police would tell me the same thing they told me. But apparently they did call the police to come to the station. But they never did come and I had to catch my bus up north.
So anyways, now I am in Bolivia and I need the police report from Santiago to make a claim with my insurance.
Does anyone know how I can go about doing this?? Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

That's a tricky one. It's on the terms and conditions of pretty much every insurance policy that you should obtain a police report for theft within 1-2 days. Bolivian tourist police will certainly not write a report for a crime committed in Chile. I've personally seen them be very reluctant to give a report for another province.
You could always pretend it was stolen in Bolivia, but given your name is now easily googleable that might not be a good idea. Despite the fact that you were genuinely robbed a false police report in another country is still considered insurance fraud.
You could try calling your insurance company, explaining the situation and asking for advice. They might use it as an excuse not to pay up though.
Goodluck

I think the lesson here is take control of the situation and go to the nearest police station ASAP.
