Hi there,

We are considering doing a week in Chile with our infant son over Thanksgiving next year. We accept that our mobility will be limited and wanted to know what are the must sees, and maybe general tips for making the trip bearable with an appendage. ;-)

Without the child I would have driven to Mendoza, but with him this may not really be an option.

thanks all!

Infants are nice and portable, so you can probably do most of what you want. You can certainly enjoy Santiago, the coast, vineyards, the lakes etc. There are really only three things to watch out for: high altitude (and you have already seen that taking the baby over to Mendoza on the bus isn't a good idea), too much sun and/or not enough water. Santiago is very dry and babies can get dehydrated quickly.

Agree on portability, though I am also trying to figure out what i'd like to do as I've never been. Ideas welcome!

Then stick to central Chile, which will have the best weather in November: Santiago, Valparaíso, Viña, and the wine valleys nearby. You'll easily fill a week. If the weather looked OK you could do an overnight bus to the lakes for a couple of days.
