is the Chilean mail service 100% reliable? ie if I post a parcel (just of second hand books - nothing of value) from out of Chile to an address within Chile (in Puerto Montt) is there any chance it will be tampered with/stolen etc?
Any experiences in this area gratefully received.
thanks for all help.

all the packages sent from my family in the us to my address here in chile have come.......none lost or anything...and not tampered with either. it's taken about 2-3 weeks, and we have used regular us mail. be sure to include the region when writing the address on the package. i was told to use regular mail service (not fed ex, DHL, etc.)...not really sure of the reason.

good luck!

I have received everything that has been sent. A couple of times things went to the 'aduana' rather than the house and I had to go down and pay some obscure fee for getting them. This seems to be arbitrary and random. If you have a business address to post them to it always seems to work better and not too big a package. It's even worth posting several smaller ones if it is a lot of books. Try to keep each package around 2-3 kilos max.

inside Chile very safe, remember you have, apart of the governmental mail, private couriers a good one is TurBus Cargo and LAN Cargo if you want fastness
also, a curiosity, the governmental mail send the parcels through TNT
