Does anyone know of good gift ideas to take to Easter Island/Rapa Nui that newly made friends, tour guides, hotel staff, etc. would appreciate. (other than money, of course) I understand that something locally produced in my own country would be nice, but I'm also looking for ideas of specific types of items that might be more desired or appreciated than others to people living on the island. Thanks for any ideas!
We spent a few days on Easter Island last December and had similar thoughts of taking some gifts, and it was suggested that processed items are generally expensive on Easter Island, ie bottles of wine etc, however we never actually got around to taking anything due to luggage space/weight/apathy etc. So while we had an enjoyable time and did a homestay etc, it was still always a commercial operation and so we didn’t regret not having gifts. But if you feel inclined and are coming from Santiago, then processed items ie chocolates etc wouldn’t go astray.
Almost everything is imported to Easter Island from Chile (for the most part) so everything is more expensive on the island. Therefore I'd bring stuff that they don't produce locally (e.g. bottle of Chilean Wine, etc.).

take cartons of wine... also, if you have the time, walk around the whole island. if you do that, you will probably meet a crazy fisherman, who lives next to the beach on the north side of the island and will show you some amazing stuff and cook you really nice fish. there is a nice campsite next to this beach, with fresh water. takes about 6 hours walking along the coast to reach it, you can't miss it.
