The plan is to fly into Chile and backpack our way to Argentina Fly fishing along the way. I was curious of how hard it is to camp (doesnt matter where) in Chile. Can you just pitch a tent somewhere on the woods? Also if anyone knows any rivers or lakes to fish. How hard is it going to be to get rides from town to town? My friend and I are both avid hikers so a little distance hiking won't hurt. Any info anybody has will be great.

Patagonia is the perfect place to camp everywhere but if you do wild camping be sure to ask for permission if the owners are close or not to camp in an obvious place where you shouldn't. But usually no probelm at all. It is now strictly forbidden everywhere to make fires, except at authorized places. On the chilean side it is fairly easy to hitch, on the argentinean more difficult. The best fly fishing is at the Rio Grande, Tierra del Fuego but all Patagonia has usually very good fly fishing. Season is from 01.11 til 30.04 and you need a pemit which is usually cheap and easy to get. The permit usually brings a lot of information and restrictions about the exact places.
