ONLINE

just now

We are a family of 3 (our daughter is 3) hoping to travel South America for 1 year commencing in March 2016.
We are looking at month long rentals of a house/room with communal facilities. We don't expect luxury but need to have clean, comfortable surroundings in a safe neighbourhood.
We also need internet.
What is realistic to expect as far as price is concerned? We are hoping for around 500 - 600 Australian.
We are happy to be outside tourist areas, but with good transport for day trips.
Thanks
Jimmy and Bec

You have posted in so many SA countries and it doesn't really make sense. You can get what you want somewhere in each of those countries. But which of them interests you? Then zero in on where in that country you might like to live. Each country is very individual and different.

Find out which countries will allow you to live there for a year. Most will give you a 90 day tourist card. Some you can leave and re-enter for a further 90 days. Some not. Some will charge you a reciprocity fee to enter or want you to get a visa. You need to do a lot more homework and focus your questions.

Maybe we should've been clearer. We don't intend to spend a year in one country. Only Maybe a month or two in the countries we posted under. As we are VERY aware SA is huge and every region is different, we posted under the individual country hoping to hear from people that have been somewhere/anywhere in these respective big and unique regions/countries to provide their recent experiences regarding longer term rentals. Why people jump to the conclusion we intend to take one person's report of long term rental prices in, say, Quito two months ago as exactly indicative of what to expect in Southern Patagonia Six months from now, is beyond us.
It's a general and relative question looking for general responses based on your recent experience. If you have them, we're all ears because, believe it or not, this is PART of doing our research.
Thanks again for any practical input.

Then, to answer your question, yes you can find what you are looking for in Chile. Outside of Santiago you can get a better room for the same money but wifi may be more of an issue.

Not sure what all the rant about Quito and prices etc is about. I just said you could find something within the price you are seeking in Chile. Maybe it refers to another answer in another branch.

To be specific, go to Google.com and enter Chile, apartments for rent...something will pop up.
Or do as I do, go to www.vrbo.com, which stands for vacations rental by owners; a web page

available world wide that I have used when renting in Chile, Argentina, Paris, Barcelona, Switzerland, etc..
The sites will show apart. pictures , but ask questions to make certain you get exactly what you want. The location you need will BE the most difficult to understand so research it carefully.
