We have book a week on Easter Island and find it very expensive to travel there and accommodation. Has any one been there lately and do you know the prices of restaurants, groceries, gas, renting a bike or scooter?

Wow, Easter Island. Have fun there. I have never been there but I want recommend you a great navigation system - although I am not sure if it will work there. For prices maybe just try to google it simply. I do it every time I go travel. Take care

We flew there without accommodations and found a taxi driver who took us to a small hotel in a guys house, his name is Oscar, the taxi drivers know him. I think it was around $40. U.S. per night. He can hook you up for a car rental which is the way to see the island and go to the beach also.

Nothing was cheap at the island last April perhaps because nothing is produced locally.
Rent bikes for 10,000 pesos for 24 hrs....or over 45.00 to 80,000 pesos per day for a vehicle,
depending on the size, with some discount for two days. Self catering maybe is cheap but cheap
in Rapa Nui, not as cheap in New York or Switzerland style. There is a camp site that is reasonable priced!
Decent resturants are expensive....$ 30 usd per meal, lunch or dinner .
In my opinion four days in the island is enough. I stayed 5.
It is very easy to explore the island!

Hi Roberto,
I'm wondering if you rented a car, and if so, would you recommend it for the whole stay or just a few days? I have booked 1 week in Easter Island, and I want to see a bit more than Hanga Roa, so I'm debating between a car rental or joining some day tours around the island. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! :)

Yes I ( we ) did rent a car, with 5 other hotel guests; reasonable costs when sharing.
The first day we all went in a local tour, tour that I thoughts were very expensive. Money cost ?? I forget.
We did rent for the whole stay as there was no other simple way to repeat seeing the sites after the tour, but remember that we shared the cost so it was not expensive individually . However if your choice is to spend the day in town, no car is needed. There are bikes and scooters for rent but did not see many on the roads.
Your being there a whole week I doubt you will need a car the full time as in 3 days with car you will see every detail
of the island....but do explore also by walking where ever you go with the car!
I hope this help!
Thanks for the quick reply. We're going to be a group of 4, so sharing the rental cost sounds like the way to go. :) We'll be sure to explore on foot as well.
