To all recent travellers to Chile
Just wondering how easy is it to download photos in internet cafes in Chile.
Can this be done easily via USB connection? Is email generally reliable or is it quite slow?
Can Cd's be made of downloaded images or saved onto USB memory sticks?
Would we have to rely on the main cities such as Santiago, San Pedro, Puerto Montte, Punto Arenas to be able to do this or should we just pack lots of memory cards for our cameras incase?
We are travelling for 4 months around south America and so I don't really want to have to buy lots of memory cards/memory sticks.
thanks!

Hi there,
been in Chile for just over a week and although out in the country in a non tourist area I have seen a few internet places around. Any computer I have used has been slow but have had Skype going etc so I dont see why there would be any problem downloading photos.

Just a suggestion rather than carrying portable cds around you can pick up a portable hard drive that is usb powered for reasonably cheap these days, havent been using public internet yet but I dont see why it will be a problem

Chicks,

In Santiago you will find lots of fast internet cafes to download any stuff. As you get away from Santiago you will find them slower, and maybe in remote areas there wont be a connection available.

Anyway, it is about downloading pictures, so at any hotel or place with a computer you can ask for them to burn a CD. You dont need connection unless to want to upload them...

So,
1) Bring some CDs to burn your stuff, or
2) Bring an Ipod (my favorite option) to use as a hard drive and download the pictures there, or
3) Make sure to be in a fast connection place to upload them in a safe place.

Mails ANYWHERE are a painfully slow way to store your pictures...

Good luck,
FNM.
