Hello travelers,

I just moved to Santiago and am trying to plan a trip for my first Christmas here in Chile. I don't get a ton of vacation days for work, so I'm looking at leaving Dec 23rd and coming back the 27th (I intend to buy flights rather than spend time with bus travel). Is there any feasible/enjoyable way I could make a Torres del Paine trek work over this time period? My other idea is spending the holiday in Pucon. For anyone who has been to Pucon, could you advise whether it's permitted to tour the national park/volcanoes/lake by yourself, or do you have to arrange with a guide? I'm assuming arranging tours over the holiday would be very tricky.

Thank you!

The only thing you cannot do on your own is the climbing of Villarica. You need a guide for that. Pucon is a town which lives off tourism and they usually keep going over holidays.

With your time frame and the difficulty of finding space now, maybe put Torres del Paine off for a while.

Pucon is very busy in high season, on the other end you have many hikes and treks in the area which are quieter than TdP. It will also come cheaper.
