Hello,

I'm looking to teach English and I've heard Chile is a great place to do that in Latin America. I do not have any experience teaching and would have to become certified. With that said, I have a question. I've heard it is possible to teach English through Ministry of Education in Chile with out paying the placement fee that one would have to pay if they went through organizations such as Cultural Embrace/Alliance Abroad/etc. Is this true? If so does anyone have contact information they would be willing to give me? Or details?

Muchas gracias!

Yes, you want the 'English Opens Doors' program which the Ministry of Education runs.

Plenty about it online.

I'm working as an English teacher in Santiago at the moment in a language institute. Just wanted to mention that there are several language institutes where you could teach English, and it is also possible to teach people privately. I would send a few emails to institutes in Chile before you pay anybody to place you. Hope you enjoy your time teaching in Chile.

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes I plan on contacting institutes before I come down there, but waiting at the moment if I get this job in the US or not. However I do not want to pay any institute to Teach English so I am looking at my options. I would rather use the money to travel and get certified. Are you enjoying your time in Chile teaching English? Would you recommend it?
