Hello,

I want to use public transport on the Carretera Austral. There is a Queilen bus leaving Puerto Montt on Wednesdays at 10.35 a.m., arriving in Coyhaique about 24 hrs later. Does it run along the Carretera (any stops? where?) or does it take the route via Argentina (non-stop)?

Thank you.

no, you will see no millimeter of Carretera Austral, the bus moves by Argentina , no stops
if you want see CA by bus in a short span of time take Kemel bus Puerto Montt Chaiten, 10 hours nice scenery mixed with fjords crossings, overnight in Chaiten and next day bus Becker to Coyhaique (beware 1 per week), in less 48 hours you will have all the coverage of CA north
an advice reserve an accomodation in Chaiten
any info chaitur.com
and the bus Becker

In Carretera austral there are buses from everywhere to everywhere else, even if it´s not every day of the week (most of these towns are tiny, with a local population that ranges from 500 to 2000 people maybe). You can do it in a few goes or so, but I recommend doing it during daytime, because the scenery is one of the best parts, and because the trip can be brutal
