We will be flying into Santiago airport at 8:30 a.m and be heading to Calama on the same day on a 4:30 p.m. flight.
One option would be to leave our bags at the Left luggage and head to the city but I wanted to check if anybody had recommendations for a cheap hotel close to the airport if we needed to catch a short nap / shower after the long flight.
Any ideas ?

There is no budget hotel near the airport.

Previous report:

* There are 3 options to go downtown:

A) Take the shuttle bus (Turbus or Centropuerto, about US$ 2.20 one-way). You may get off at the Pajaritos metro station, though it is not a wise idea during rush hour (18:00 - 20:00 hours), and the metro stops running relatively early. Or you may continue on the bus to other stops (closer to) downtown.

B) Take a shared cab (Turbus or Transvip, Transvip is cheaper than Turbus), should be around US$ 9.00 for a ride downtown. This will get you all the way to your hotel, though you may have to go drop other passengers before.

C) Take a private cab. It should cost around US$23.00 including all tolls for a ride downtown or to Providencia.

As my previous poster mentioned they are no nearby cheapies. If you are on a budget get your bags from the airport walk out of the main entrance and hop on a Centro Puerto airport shuttle bus (one way $1400 chilean - its a blue bus). It takes about half an hour to get to the city. get off at Los Heroes metro station and you can walk to the YHA which is a 5 minute walk from there. Other than that there are hotels near the airport but id imagine they would be expensive. Good luck!
