I want to travel from Esquel, Argentina to Futaleufú, Chile and I haven't been able to find good information online. What is the best way to make this border crossing? Is it true that buses only run on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays? Has anyone traveled by taxi, and if so, how does that work once you hit the border- are there taxis waiting on the other side?

Any tips regarding this crossing to-and-from would be very appreciated!

Thanks!!

Yes, busses go in the morning and in the afternoon on Monday, Wednesday, Friday. The border is a long way from Esquel, but on the Chilean side, it is not that far to Futaleufu. Backpackers could hike. I guess the officials at the Chilean customs could call a taxi for you.

Thanks for confirming! What about buses going back to Esquel? Is the same true, leaving Monday, Wednesday, Friday only? Or is there a different border crossing further south you can recommend? We're trying to move towards Chalten after Futalefeu.

Any other tips regarding these places are welcome! :)

Cheers!

Buses Jakobsen does this track

in the frontier switch to a Chilean bus to Futa, from there you have daily buses to Chaiten (not Chalten)

There is another border crossing from Esquel to Palena. But it's longer. I think there are busses as well, but I don't know the details, I guess Fernando knows.

Yes, it is Carrileufu or Rio Encuentro Pass but with less traffic. Jakobsen go there but no sure about a Chilean connection to Palena, also from Palena there are buses to Chaiten. My advice is prefer Futaleufu pass, more cars and buses traffic
