Hi!

My friend and I are planning a 2.5 week trip for Northern Chile in early May. Could we get your opinion on our itinerary as planned so far?

We have ~5 days for Santiago/Valparaiso/Vina del Mar.
From there, we're taking a flight to Calama to head to San Pedro de Atacama, where we will spend ~2.5 days there.
From San Pedro, we'll do the 4 day tour to the Bolivian salt flats.
After that, we'll go to Iquique via bus for paragliding for 2.5 days.
Finally, we will head back to Santiago for approx 1.5 days.

Thanks! We appreciate your input!

Certainly, the most interesting part of your trip is Salar de Uyuni, which isn't Chile. Other than that, northern Chile isn't very exciting, compared to other countries/areas in that part of South America.
Valparaiso is quite unique though, with its cerros and ascensores.

How did it go?

I heard Calama is great if you want to hang in a dessert, and tons of french and german influence.
How expensive was the flight form Santiago to Calima?

we plan

Arrive Santiago June 10
Copa America... here and there and the 14 a game
the 15 fly to Calima and come back the 24
Fly to Easter Island June 25
Return to Santiago June 26 and head to Buenos Aires for a week.

Hey!

Sorry for the late reply.

The trip was great! Much colder than we expected though :)

We flew from Santiago to Iquique and then took a bus to Calama. The flights were much cheaper than flying directly to Calama - 80.000 CLP per ticket (round trip).

I think that most people go to San Pedro de Atacama to check out the desert - it is a 2 hour bus ride away form Calama. Please be careful in Calama - we almost got one of our bags stolen, and we met a few travellers whose bags were actually stolen.

Have a great trip!
