Hi -
I'm arriving in Sao Paulo on 29th Aug, and need to be in Maceio on 2nd Sept. So in between I'm thinking about going to one of Lencois or Porto Seguro - has anyone been to both, and what do you advise? These are both places friends have suggested to me, but I only have time to do one.

Thanks

Hey guys,

I have to wait close to 8 hours in Rio de Janeiro's International airport and I wanted to know what is there to do there?

I was thinking of leaving my bags in storage (if possible) and then exploring the city... but I am not sure how easy and secure that would be. Would this be safe? Does anyone know of any safe baggage storage in the airport?

Also, what do you recommend I do for 4-5 hours in in the city on a low budget?

I arrive at 7am and have to be back at the airport at 3pm.

thanks…

Hi all, I know this is a fairly common question but I couldn't find a thread that answered my questions really: After I see Iguazu Falls, I have three weeks to make it to Manaus for my Amazon expedition. I figure that is enough time to see 4 or maybe 5 places (4 or 5 days in each). Right now, I would like to see Curitiba because I have an interest in urban planning; Rio; and I'm thinking Bahia and/or a Northern beach. I plan to fly between cities, or maybe bus anything shorter than 12 hours and…

I'veve been stuggling with how to account for christmass in my travel plans and would love peoples thoughts. i am travlling mostly alont for a year and plan to be in Brazil December. I need to be in Merida, Mexico (in the Yucatan) for a freinds New Years party. I'm jewish so i'm completly indifferent to Christmass but I am concerned about how it will affect my travels. The options as I see it are:

1. Fly on Christmass day. I'm not sure how that will affect my plane fare. Maybe cheaper. However…

Hi,

I am going to windsurf to Jericoacoara end of year 2007 so I will fly to Fortaleza. I have to fly from Europe; prefered from Wienna, Venece or Munchen. The cheapest air fare I got is €1000 with TAP. Does any one know where to buy air fare for less?
THX

Is there anyone carrying business visa (type II) to enter Brazil?
Do they ask you lots of questions regarding your visa?
I applied for tourist visa, but somewhat I got type II by mistake.

i just got back from brazil and i am now determined to learn the language before returning there next may =) other than trying to find a language partner to practice with, does anyone have advice on a language course to take? for example, any opinions on using Rosetta Stone or www.soniaportuguese.com as a means of learning?

Hello all,

I am an expat living and working in Sao Paulo. I am reaching out to the Lonely planet community for help finding amazing places to visit in my free time (ie. weekend breaks). Unfortunately, travel in Brazil is not quite as easy as in Europe and it is difficult to jump on a plane for a weekend (ie. cost and delays) which is a shame as I know many amazing places in other regions of Brazil. Here in Sao Paulo my friends tend to favour trendy beaches characterized by good food…

Feijoada

Hi all,

I understand that feijoada is a common and very Brazilian dish and I was hoping to get some recommendations on a good place to try this while I'm in Rio. Any particular recommendations for a place to check it out? Some of the ingredients seem a bit exotic to me - salted pork trimmings (ears, tail, feet), bacon, smoked pork ribs, at least two types of smoked sausage and jerked beef (loin and tongue) - is it really commonplace to make it with the ears, tail and feet and such? Sounds very…
