Hello:
My sister and I will be visiting Brazil for about two weeks in August. We are planning to spend time in the Pantanal and then in Bahia, where a friend lives.
Does anyone have any recommendations for things to do in Bahia? My sister and I enjoy adventurous activities like hiking, biking, and kayaking. We generally prefer more natural places to overdeveloped touristy stuff and we like to get a bit of authentic culture as well. Not so much into the clubbing, shopping, or sunbathing.
Thanks.

MY ADVISE FOR YOU WOULD BE TO DO A SEARCH IN THE THORN TREE WITH THE WORDS "BAHIA" OR "SALVADOR" AND READ MANY MESSAGES POSTED BY OTHER PEOPLE ABOUT THE SAME QUESTION YOU ARE ASKING. THEN, IF YOU HAVE MORE SPECIFIC QUESTIONS, WRITE BACK SO PEOPLE CAN HELP YOU OUT. BEST,

Chapada Diamantina is an area a couple of hours inland from Salvador. It has great hiking, rock climbing, horse riding and biking opportunities. Buses from Salvador take you to the town of Lençois in about 6 or 7 hours. There you can take tours or hire a guide. Lençois has a lot of mostly small pousadas, restaurants and shops.
I suggest you to visit Chapada Diamantina. The city of Lençóis is a good basis to explore the region.

hey ya! in bahia i know this guy massimo, i give u his website: www.villamizade.com, the place he has its near salvador, but not centre. try and give him a call he's amazing at organizing stuff to do!
Read more about the Chapada Diamantina national park and about Lençóis in this thread. And see pictures on my travel website.
