Hi :-)

I am considering a trip to Brazil and would really like to get some recomendations as to what cities to visit. I have been to Rio de Janeiro and Petropolis before and I am planning to Return to Rio de JAneiro. However I am interested in other places to visit in the country. I am a male and travelling alone. I am a bit concerned about security and want to avoid the most troublesome areas. I don't speak Portuguese or Spanish.

So Rio is a must and I have also thought about Salvador. Any other ? Natal ? How easy is it to experience the jungle and the Wildlife and how many days would I have to set aside for such an experience ?

I have been to Iguazu and would consider it a must. Don't do the silly boat tours into the falls, I found it a rip-off, especially for the going price of 170R$, but the entry to the park and what is included with it is a must. I was quite happy to pay for the basic entry into the park though, and happy with what was included with that. Iguazu city itself is perfectly safe and I would walk around alone late evening back to my hotel with no problems besides the usual precaution of not flashing my oversized camera.

If you are interested in engineering at all or are an engineer, I would recommend Itiapu Dam, but skip it if you aren't interested in that kind of thing.

Research Fernando de Noronha, I had to skip it because of budget, it's expensive but allegedly worth it, especially if you're into scuba diving.

Iguazu yes, if you can. Brazil is vast. If you love seeing animals in the wild, go to the Pantanal region; one of the best places in the world for wildlife viewing. If you like history, go to Salvador, and go to the Minas Gerais region north of Rio, to visit Ouro Preto and the other mining towns there. Olinda, near Recife in the northeast is also great for it's history. If you want hiking, go to Chapada Diamante in the mountains west of Salvador.

And if you want beach towns, the list is endless. Jericoacoara near Fortaleza is special, if you can get that far north.
