Hi everybody,

I'm going to Brazil in July with some friends and including the trip is, of course, the amazon river.
But we don't want to take too touristy boattrips, we want to go in small slowboats.
The idea is that we go from Manaus to Santarem in slowboats, preferably just us and 1 guide. And in Santarem hop on a bigger ferry to go to Belem due to time.
Does anyone have any experience with the amazon river who can tell me if something like this is possible?
And any tips & tricks for the amazon in general, like what you must bring and what to do or not to do.
Any tips and experiences are greatly appreciated!
Hope to hear some great helpful things!

Well, you can generally pay someone to take you anywhere if you've got enough money, but that's a long trip with a guide and the guide won't have much to do. The Amazon River itself is so large that you can't see much from a boat. I think what you probably want is a smaller boat and guide to take you around an area with lakes/tributaries, and then take a large boat from Manaus to Santarem and onto Belem. Many companies offer that. This one, for instance: http://amazonecoadventures.com/?page_id=13
