My wife and I have vacation time available (August 4 - 18) during the Rio Olympics, we're not interested in the spending two weeks in Rio during that insane time time and I'm looking for somewhere I could fly in thats interesting for a few days, travel to Rio for a few days of beach and an Olympic Event or two and then head out ago ending somewhere to fly out.
Tried some google searching of airport and the only obvious choice is Sao Paulo. Assuming I fly in there where somewhere on the other side to** fly out?**

Doesn't have to be coastal, could certainly finish the trip heading into the jungle. I know its a bit ambitious for only two weeks but thats all the vacation time I have :(

Also suggestions other than Sao Paulo is welcome as well. Thank you in advance for your time.

Just be aware that for every major event in Rio, accommodation is almost invariably sold in multi-day blocks/minimal stay periods and that prices spike by several times their ordinary worth. It will be happening again this week for carnival.

If Rio is where you want to head, I'd think about taking your holiday before or after the event. As for the rest of the country, the world's your oyster. You really should get a guidebook and see what appeals to you. personally, I'd recommend Salvador and the weather is usually quite stable in August.

As to airports, if you are on the east coast of Canada, there are certainly more choices than SP, at around the same price, usually out of NYC or Miami, and directly into Rio, Salvador (on AA), Belo Horizonte (also AA).

Tale a look at sights:
Rio, Salvador, Recife
Beaches of Bahia
Colonial towns in Minas Gerais state
Falls at Iguacu
Chapada Diamantina in Bahia
Pantanal (south and north) for wildlife, and Bonito or Nobres

I also would suggest avoiding Rio during the games.

Lots of places to go to:
Beaches - Explore the Bahian coast - it (in my eyes) has some of the best beaches in the country. Head further north to Recife and the beaches around there. Or go up to Fortaleza and explore Jericoacoara and Canoa Quebrada.
Chapadas - Diamanntina/Veadeiros are exceptional national parks that are worth exploring.
Iguazu.
Colonial towns in MG.
Southern Beaches - if you dig surfing head to Floripa for some surf. It'll be cold in the water but the surf is great.
Amazon tour or Pantanal tour.

Brazil is a massive massive country. Its got lots to offer. It really depends what you are after about where you should go.

Salvador has an international Airport. So does Belo Horizonte. And Brasilia. And Fortaleza. And Recife. As does Manaus.
