Hi everyone,

I am off to Sao Paulo in a couple of weeks and I wanted to ask you what you think is the best area to stay in town, in terms of safety and nightlife?

I want a lively spot but where I can feel relatevely safe.

If you could also advise on a particular hostel/cheap hotel...that would be ace!

Thanks

Piero

I stayed in Centro (Republica), and was happy with the Rivoli Hotel. Single room for about 33Reais with private bath and breakfast. Lots of eating establishments in this area.

Haven't been there yet, but I'm presuming that nightlife & safety don't always go hand-in-hand?

I love Rivoli Hotel and recommend it too: it is near to the subway and main central attractions, look for their website. The area is safe, but, unless you are gay, there is not actually nightlife in Centro.

The safest (and richest) areas are Morumbi, Jardins and the area around Av Brigadeiro Faria Lima (at least that's what by motorista lead me to believe)...
The Centro didn't seem very safe but i guess it's not such a big a deal...
I came back yesterday from a 9 day long trip there, i've posted some pics of it in my blog... You can check it out if u want =) I had a great time there
