Untrue. Every Argentine tourist wallowing on a beach in Santa Catarina is one less further north. That is a definite positive. Think of it as a second Uruguay, essentially a buffer zone between civilisation and Argentina.

I'll remember that it could be worse the next time the view from Porto da Barra beach includes some Italian or three 'frolicking' with their local lady of the hour.
