Hello there!

My brother and I are going to Salvador for World Cup this June, and then in July we will be traveling to the Pantanal via Campo Grande. The bus trip from Salvador to Campo Grande is about three days and goes through Brasilia. Being on a bus for three days is not a whole lot of fun, and we have a little leeway time, so I was hoping to find some nice towns to stop and visit along the way. So, any recommendations of places to visit between Salvador and Brasilia? Or town between Brasilia and Campo Grande, provided they are places with bus service to Campo. Any ideas and input would be super appreciated.

Well you could always fly.

I'd suggest getting to Brasilia and then visiting Pirenópolis in GO. It's a charming little town surrounded by a multitude of little waterfalls and not too far out of your way.

Little leeway time means I wouldn't be trying to stop in between. Take a flight somewhere. Or go to Cuiaba (could be pricey due to the WC). It will probably save about 10-12 hours on your bus ride.

You could stop at Chapada Diamantina (but thats only a few hours from Salvador). Or Chapada dos Veadeiros near Brasilia.

See if you can find on YouTube the Brazilian film O Palhaco. Pay close attention to the scenes where their trucks are on the road traveling from one show to another, one dusty little town in the interior to another. Three days road trip through similar countryside. Advice: Don't carry any instrument sharp enough to slit your wrists with. Bite the bullet and fly. Or at least go down the coast for fun and through São Paulo for a southern Pantanal bus.

I have one thing to say:

Prepare for a shitty road.
