Hi,
My family of four and I are thinking of taking a flight which arrives at Rio International Airport at 2:30 am. It's a last minute change in our itinerary due to a flight issue. Are the airports safe if we want to crash there if we can't find a hotel to stay at?
Thanks,

We were in the same situation two months ago. On the top floor (3 rd I think) right behind the Information desk is a quiet sitting area. Relaxed and slept there until 7 A M without a problem.

Presuming you mean Galeão, the international airport, as opposed to Santos Dumont, the domestic, then there is both a hotel and a pousada/hostel located within the airport itself. The hotel is quite expensive, the hostel apparently submarine like. For a family, probably a better option than sleeping on the floor.

OP, how long do you have between flights?

I would probably not sleep there with a family. If it was just myself, then sure. But not with a family of four.

I would try to go to a nearby hotel or hostel. (as Corisco suggested).

My girlfriend and I are planning to do so for one night during the World Cup to avoid one more rip-off night in Rio. We'll be landing at 9pm. Read some reviews here http://www.sleepinginairports.net/list.asp?region=3&country=Brazil&city=Rio+De+Janeiro&terminal=GIG#.U3xUvJ3wDRY which gave us some confidence. Thanks to nomadedovento for sharing the experience!
To be sure, however, we will take turns sleeping.
