The Pantanal is absolutely fantastic for those interested in seeing wildlife, but do be very careful of who you book a budget tour with.

I booked with Green Track, and found them to be one of the most poorly managed tour companies I have ever used. Here is my experience.

I booked a four night stay. On day 2 in the afternoon we were left without a guide and had to fend for ourselves. Then on the Monday I was scheduled to be picked up and transported back to the main Campo Grande-Corumba road, where I was to catch the bus to Bonito, no transport arrived!! I was offered a free nights food and bed, but no apology for forgetting to pick me up.

The following day, I was told a transport would come at 2.00pm to connect me to the Bonito bus. I waited but no transport came. At 5pm transport arrived but this was too late to connect to the Bonito bus. So another night spent in their camp!!

Four Australians who arrived whilst I was there were confused as to the day they should depart. The guide looked at their receipt and confirmed that they should depart on the Wednesday. So when the transport arrived on the Tuesday at 5pm they were surprised, and given they too were headed to Bonito, were reluctant to take this. Green Track's management became highly abusive with the Australians, threatenning the police and worse. With me they had completely forgotton I was there and shrugged off my delayed departure saying I had benefitted.

The Australians and I left the next morning, having to pay additional 270 reis for Green Tracks mistakes and lack of communication with their guide on site. The guide was so shocked by the managements behavhiour he resigned. This left the 5 others left at the camp with out a guide.

Once in Bonito I logged into the Thorn Tree to post my opinion about Green Track. There I saw a post attacking the Australians behaviour and promoting Green Track. This post was placed by the Australian employee of Green Track. I searched under that posters profile and discovered many other posts praising Green Track. Clearly this employee was disguising herself as a traveller to promote her agency. I contacted the moderator and all these posts have now been removed thankfully.

The following day 15 new posts appeared promoting Green Track. They were self promoting again. Again I asked the moderator remove these.

I value the Thorn Tree forum for the advice it can give us travellers. I really object to agencies self promoting here disguised as travellers.

By searching 007Benny I am pretty sure his/her posts are GREEN TRACK once again putting self congratulatory messages.

I can agree the Pantanal is superb, far better for wildlife than the Amazon. Do go, but be careful which agency you choose.
