My fiance and I will be arriving in Sao paulo by bus from Rio, have just one night there, then be flying out internationally the next night (9pm) from GRU Sao Paulo. Could anyone recommend a good a good area for a hotel, reasonably convenient for transport from bus station and to airport and good for getting to see just a bit of Sao Paulo. We'd like to enjoy a good meal with music on our last night and a good night sleep (not have a late night out), and do some sightseeing or shopping in the morning.
Expecting to pay about $100 for a room.
thanks.

You can find good US$100 rooms for weekends only. I would reserve the room at any hotel rated 8 to 10 in Booking.com. Expect to pay $150 to $200 for weekdays. Moema is a good and safe neighborhood where you can stay and dine at walking distance. Use Trip Advisor to find a good restaurant.

I enjoy the Vila Madalena area. Its good and pretty hip area. Plenty of great bars and restaurants. The Jardins Area is pretty swanky. Have a look on the usual booking sites. And as #1 suggest keep the rating high.

Plenty of good places to eat. If its your last night, find a good Churrascaria and go to town. Ask at the hotel/hostel for a recommendation. A walk down Rua Augusta is an interesting experience at night too.

Not quite as interesting as it used to be.

Jardim Paulista is pretty handy. I've stayed at the Pestana on a number of occasions, which despite a stiff walk up hill to Av Paulista is pretty good vale for money and the service is excellent. You should be able to find a room for around $100 on weeknights. Metro station (Brigadeiro) about a 5-10 minute walk away.

Corisco, it was when I last ventured there. I guess it depends which side you go and how far along you go. I found it interesting, but then again for a non-Brazilian it was probably different to what I'm used to.

Thanks everyone. In the end we decided an extra night in Rio then a flight the next day to Sao Paulo would be better for us.
