Hello, I'm sure it has been posted many times, but internet is really expensive here and I've gotta be quick.
I was thinking of flying from Salvador to Manaus and then taking a boat through the rainforest to Letica and then flying to Bogota.
My main purpose is because I found such cheap flights from Bogota to LAX (my main goal is to get home).
I found flights from Rio to LAX for about 1,300 USD and a flight from Bogota to LAX for about $600 USD.
That means I have an extra 700 USD to play with in getting from Salvador to Bogota.
I thought it would be cool to see a bit of the rain forest.
How long would it take me from Manus to Letica and how much do you figure it would be....and then would you recomend just taking a cheap flight from Letica to Bogota? Is it safe?
Thanks for the help.....any other recomendations on how I should get home to California would be greatly appreciated.....it's all expensive from Brasil to fly anywhere....

I am pretty sure that you can only fly, instead of a bus, to Bogota from Leticia. Flying is safe. The general rule in Colombia is that if isn´t not safe, you can´t do it. i.e. if the bus route is unsafe, there is no bus. Flying in and out of Colombia is always expensive. I have heard the boat takes 3-7 days from Manus to Leticia. Good luck. When you are in Bogota go to Zona Rosa. Cool area to hang out in at night or for good food.

You can only fly from from Leticia to Bogota, there are not roads. I have just down the reverse (Bogota to Brazil coast) in the last couple of weeks. There is only one airline which goes from Leticia to Bogota, thats aerorepulica, for $150. If your going upriver from Manaus to Tabatinga (the brazil port next to leticia) it will take upwards of 5 days, it took 4 going down stream.

If you are going to fly in brazil, I would book your internal flights asap, as it is holiday season and Ive had quite a bit of trouble getting flights, especially cheap ones.

Hi

Yes, lots of cheap flights between Colombia (Bogota/Medellin-LAX I have seen for 489 Rt. on Delta and Taca) and the states. You can also take the boat to Manaus and get a bus to Caracas, and travel onto the Colombian Carribean then down to Bogota, save a few days on the boat which is a pretty good party, but can get old after a while. The Carribean is a great place to end a trip, and lots of transport to Bogota or Medellin.
