Hi All,
We have the opportunity of a (relatively) cheap flight from UK to Salvador.

The problem I'm having is where to spend my time - the more I read the more I want to see.
Initially I was quite happy with spending a week in Praia do Forte to chill out, then split the second week between Morro and Salvador.
But now I really like the idea of visiting Lencrois, and there are plenty of other places I would like to see !!

So - my question for you folks who know the area - if you had two weeks - and only two weeks - flying in and out of Salvador how would you spend your time ?
(assume you want to get a good balance of chilling out and doing outdoor activities !)

Thanks

I had 3 weeks a few years ago. My favourite beach was Itacaré, near Ilheus. You could do what I did and take night bus to Ilheus, then come slowly back to Salvador, taking boat from Valença to Morro de Sao Paulo and then a fast boat to Salvador, maybe 3 nights at each beach?

Lencois - two or three nights, more if you want to do serious trekking in the Chapada.

Which wouldn't leave that long for Salvador, but I reckon it's doable. For me Praia do Forte was nice, but not as stunning as the other beaches further south.

It all depends of course what your preferences are: if you're really into hiking, Chapada Daimantina (Lençois) is a must. For myself, I had 3 weeks in 2005 and did exactly the 4 places you mentioned: Salvador, Morro, Praia do Forte, Lençois. In retrospect, I would have preferred not going to Lençois and spend that time on the beach in Praia do Forte. But that's because I'm not much of a hiking person. I did enjoy Lençois and the park, but the beach is just great... Morro and Praia do Forte are quite different, Morro is less "organised", cheaper, less formal. I loved both though.

IF YOU NEED TO CONSIDER SOME LOGISTICS, I WOULD SUGGEST FOR YOU TO SPEND 4 NIGHTS IN PRAIA DO FORTE, ACCLIMATATE TO BRAZIL, ENJOY THE PLACE, STAY IN A GREAT POUSADA--IS MIDDLE SEASON NOW SO GREAT POUSADAS GO CHEAPER-- AND GET TO KNOW THE PLACE AND NEARBY BEACHES.... NICER THAN MORRO AND WITH MORE THINGS TO DO IN MY OPINION, SPECIALLY IF YOU ARE OLDER THAN 22 OR SO. ... ENJOY THE FABULOUS BEACH ON LOW TIDE, ETC... (I CAN GIVE YOU MANY MORE RECOMMENDATIONS IF YOU NEED.

THEN, GO TO SALVADOR FOR A THREE NIGHTS AND FROM THERE GO TO LENCOIS TO DO SOME TREKKING. tHREE - FOUR NIGHTS? tHEN, IF YOU HAVE A COUPLE OF EXTRA NIGHTS YOU WOULD GO FROM THERE.

Hi Jackie,

I've been searching for a cheap flight from the UK to Salvador, even a relatively cheap one! I've PMed you with a bit more detail, but would love to know who you went through and how much it cost.

Thanks very much.

Hello,

I rent furnished apartments with kitchen in a residential village at the city of Imbassai, located 63 km north of Salvador – BAHIA – BRAZIL. It’s a very small city with unpaved roads, quiet beaches, river, bars & restaurants and markets.

It is a cheap option if you stay a longer time. It stays only 10 km from the well known ecotouristic destination of Praia do Forte. I can pick up at the airport, excursion to salvador, canoe trip on river, fishing and discover the north litoral.

All best

Get yourself to Lencois for at least 4-5 days of hiking. You can do daytrips every day so you don't need camping gear.

Spend a few days in Salvador to experience the culture and music

Then go to the beach. Praia do Forte is OK, Morro de Sao Paulo is nicer but a bit further away.

Boipeba is a great spot instead of Morro de Sao Paolo, but if you enjoy surfing I would say Itacare'.
