Dear All,
Last May I was in Brazil together with my boyfriend and we were very lucky to met Eduardo, a taxi driver. While taking a ride with him my boyfriend who is Spanish started a conversation with Eduardo who offered his services to show us around Rio de Janeiro. At first I was a bit skeptical but when it came to the 'tour' he didn't dissapoint us to the least. It was a real wonderful experience and we repeated one more day - he took us from Copacabana along the beaches of Ipanema, Leblon and other beautiful ones until a surf beach called 'prainha' (it seemed like we were leaving the city of Rio de Janeiro, all through the coast). The coast of Rio de Janeiro is really beautiful!!!! We were able to stop where we wanted for a swim and take pictures. He did speak some English and was an extremely friendly and reliable person (regardng things we read about Rio, I felt very secure going around with him). On our way back we stopped to eat on a 'churrascaria' and then continued through the forest of tijuca on our way back to Copacabana. The views from there were amazing from both sides of the city. The next day he took us to most city sights but the previous day was unbeatable, the Christ was packed with local tourist as well as the Sugar Loaf (he showed us a walk close by which was well worth walking).
I told Eduardo I would write about my experience with him but it has taken me some time to do so since I have been busy with other things. I had only experienced such things in Buenos Aires, meeting well-educated people working as taxi drivers. Eduardo told us he had come to Europe a couple of times and about others trips he has taken, I believe he could be better off doing something else. Anyway, he loves his city and is an enthusiast of football. If anyone is interested in contacting him send me a PM message and I will send his number. I am travelling to South Africa and Namibia this Friday so I might stay a couple of days without internet access. He is probably on his late-fifties.
For those going to Rio de Janeiro, have a wonderful time! We travelled to Buzios as well and thought it was a very nice, cozy, relaxing place (packed with Chileans and Argentinians)
