Hello peeps! Im going to travel to Fortaleza, then stay two weeks there (jerico, cumbuco, and other places around) for surfing and beach. After that I am going to spend another 2 weeks going downwards to Salvador to join the carnival 12-15th of january. My question is, what places is worth seeing going from Fortaleza to Salvador (not just beaches). I was thinking about going to Aracuju, Olinda, Recife and maybe porto das galinhas.
Also i am thinking about going to chapada diamantina - which i have heard is incredible. But as I've understood, I have to be there for some days to experience most? And do anyone know how much the guided tours cost? Would love to do a 4-5 day trekking!

You are going to a really hot spots in Brazil during carnival season. I could help you with guiding, but sadly I live in Minas Gerais state in Southeast, if you are coming close here let me know.
I think you shouldn't go alone in this trekking activities, join to a group excursion. It's easily to find out one of them when you check in the hotel or beforehand over the internet.
By what you said, you are going alternate between two very different kind of activities.. Salvador, Olinda and Recife are very crowded and noise cities, while beaches in Fortaleza and chapada diamantina are more calm places where people try to get away from carnival parties. So try schedule your tour with these differences in mind.
If you need some more information just let me know, I will be glad to help.
take care.

Thank you so much for your reply! Now I'm going to the northern parts of brazil, as I have already been in the south parts of Brazil which i really love! Oh, but do you think it will be difficult to find a group to go with if I'm staying in hostels in chapada diamantina?
Normally i love the quiet places more, and I'm more in to nature and trekking, and seeing beautiful cities. But i am going downwards to Salvador between 12-15th of february to join the carnival, so I'm just trying to find the cities that is really worth seeing! :)
Well...Salvador is very wild in Carnival even for Brazilians. Take extra care because you are going to have a really different experience ;-)
About find a excursion group in Chapada Diamantina. It will be very easy. People go there from everywhere to get the same action as you... for your comfort try schedule your local tour in advance, in the last days is going to be hard get a place or even more expensive than usual. (you know Brazilian prices change all the time)
But if you are short in money will not be difficult make friendship in the hostel and hang out around with your buddies ;-)

Hey. I am going to Chapada in March. I've been to Brazil a few times, always on the coast, so was keen to head inland. A knowledgeable friend who works in travel in Brazil, an inspirational traveller, recommended Chapada.
From all I have read it is best to do it in guided walks. Whilst I am travelling there solo to Lencois, I expect to be able to join tours from within the town. My B&B has good reviews as a place for meeting other travellers so that is hopefully another option of joining walking groups
Note if flying in and out Azul is the only airline and they operate two flights inbound a week from Salvador. Flight days being Sunday and Thursday.

dude, don't skip Porto de Galinhas and Recife.
also, for surfing, this time of the year, you'll get nothing in Ceará, it's too much windy and they swell doesn't break in. In Porto/Maracaípe you could still get some. But if you're really looking for waves, you should go to Fernando De Noronha (half an hour flight from Recife) , just google it.
