Hi, I'll be arriving in Brazil early morning and am hoping to go direct to Ilha Grande or at least to Paraty that day. Should I take a bus to the bus center in Sao Paolo and then a bus to Paraty? Does anyone know a better way? After going to Ilha Grande I plan to go to Rio. If I do stay in Paraty, does anyone have a place to recommend?

Should I catch a bus from the airport to here: Tietê Bus Terminal to get a bus to Paraty?

Buses to Paraty leave from Terminal Tietê.
In Paraty I could recommend Hotel Santa Rita, beside the colonial Santa Rita Church in the Historical Quarter.

Thanks JUVENAL. I looked up the hotel santa rita. it looks nice, but doesn't seem the best for a solo traveler. What do you think? Do you have a good place to recommend in Ilha Grande?

What do you mean? No problem if you stay in a large room with dbl or many beds: you pay per person, as a single room.
If you look for cheaper places, check hotels outside the Historical Quarter.
I cannot help about Ilha Grande.
