Has anyone been in Flioronapolis in mid May....will it be quite cloudy and chilly or still sunny and a little warm. I heard its beautiful and nothing worse than clouds making everything look grey...

I don´t agree at all, "pops" might have been really unlucky. I live here on and off for 3 years and the weather in autumn is fantastic. The last 2 months the temperature was around 30oC and almost everyday we had cloudless skies. I went to Campeche beach yesterday and it was absolutely gorgeous: warm sea, loads of people surfing...
May is also beautiful, just a little bit cooler. If you stay in the north you might find it is deserted as those areas are occupied mainly by summer tourists. If you stay around Lagoa or further south you will find a very relaxing place with local people going on about their lives plus great beaches almost for yourself. The "real" Floripa shows itself after the busy months and there is much more to this place than just the beaches - great outdoors, an unique culture. You just have to look a little bit further than the tourist trails.
Don´t be put off- check it out yourself!

I went in May and the weather was 12oC at night and it rained everyday though I heard the weather got better after we left.

If there is a cold wave you will be cold and rainny ... water very cold ... but at least these last days the weather have been warm and no previsions of bad weather at the moment. Hard to know how it will be in a month .
I´ve been there in May many times ... and found both good and bad weather ... I had lots of fun anyway ... perhaps my inner sun always shines ... :o)
