I am looking into the feasibility of travelling to (and possibly working in) the archipelago of Fernando do Noronha. I have a few questions which I couldn't find up to date information for so here goes:

  1. What is the best (cheapest) way to get there from UK (London)?
  2. If I have to fly to Brazil mainland, like Recife or even Rio, what's the best way to then go to the islands?
  3. I heard a mention of taxes whilst on the island - what's the rates/fees?
  4. Regarding point 3, if I go there to work, do I still have to pay the taxes? What types of work are exempt from paying the island tax?
  5. What is the best time of year to visit? I am flexible and would prefer to go off-peak if that's possible, or whenever it is cheapest.
  6. Is internet available on the island?

Sorry for asking so many questions and cheers in advance!

There are flights to Fernando de Noronha from Recife and Natal. You'll have to work out the cheapest way to get to eother from the UK. TAP flies to both from Lisbon.

Unless you have an employer willing to employee you and sponsor you for a work visa, which judging by your post you don't, you will not be able to work there. It's unlawful to work on a tourist visa so any discussion of the appropriate tax regime is irrelevant.

It's Fernando de Noronha btw.

Flight is best. Cheapest. Probably a flight to Rio or Salvador. Or get to Lisbon for a flight with TAP.

Flight from Natal/Recife.

20USD for the first day, it then rises per day after. That was based on info I searched (page was dated 2009). It might have increased - most likely.

You don't have a working visa. So that won't happen.

Its pretty warm all year where it lies. If you can go off-season. Then it may be cheaper. Though its one of the most expensive places in Brasil.

Yes.

Hi both, thanks for your super speedy responses :o)

There is information about Fernando on various websites but it all seems a little vague and sometimes out of date, which seems to me to be a good thing as that suggests tourism is pretty minimal there? Presumably that would call for a more exclusive trip/experience.

So my research on Fernando de Noronha continues, in particular how/if I can use my professional skills (as a Web Developer) on the island leveraging them for a shortish stay and sponsored working visa? A "carteira de trabalho" was mentioned elsewhere - anyone know how to qualify and get one, bearing in mind I'm from the UK?
